This is Tuesday and it is our first p-day. We had planned on doing some major exploring today but I got a little sick. We left about 1 pm and explored the little town we are living in which is jut outside Darmstadt. We found the post office and the bank, all the 3 grocery stores, a drug store and it looked like dollar store. We bought things for our apartment and of course stopped at the backeri. We were then hungry since we hadn't eaten lunch so we stopped at a local restaurant to eat. It was about 4:30 pm. The waiter said we could have the afternoon menu but that dinner wasn't served until 6:00 pm. It was an Italian place so dad ordered a Hawaiian pizza and a salad. I ordered a salad and some apple juice. It was really good! It was also pricey but that it true of many things in Germany. We bought food for the week and laundry supplies. It is interesting to see the food. The milk is in liter containers and it is about$1.40 each. There is no skim milk and the yogurt is all high fat or reduced to 8% fat. It is a good thing I brough my walk at home video. I have to do it every day just to stay where I want to be. We have a tiny kitchen but we still haven't figured out where everything is. Dad is unloading the dishwasher right now and keeps asking me where things go. We have a nice stove and fridge with a freezer above. It is very comfortable for senior missionaries. The only really small part of it is the shower. It reminds us so much of our old small shower. We have a living room, dining area, kitchen with 2 desks and then a bathroom and bedroom. Our washer and drying are downstairs in the basement room just off the garage. We have a place to park our car in the garage so it makes it nice when we come home late at night. Last night was Family Home Evening and the YSA had planned to go to the middle of the city for the Christmas Market. We met by the white tower (which we finally found) and then just walked around and bought the food we wanted and looked at the vendors booths. We then went to a Book of Mormon Exhibit which was at the University Library. It was very impressive. The YSA did a diorama with the help of one of the head librarians who is a member of the church. Then they contact the church offices in Salt Lake and got some materials and then found in a library in Weisbaden an original copy of the German translatioin of the Book of Mormon. The library did all the posters and graphics and it started in November and will run through January 2, 2010. They are trying to get it for the Mainz library but we haven't heard yet. The first thing Monday morning we got up and got dressed and were studying in the apartment before we went to the center. The missionaries called and they had forgot their keys and wanted to know if we could come to the church to open it. It is a 20 minute drive to the church so we hurried and we got there about the time their teaching appointment did. We stayed at the center until FHE that night. The sister missionaries came by and needed some help to put together a baptismal program for their baptism on Sunday night. Today I did our first wash in a tiny washing machine and dryer. I put half the white clothes in with a couple of pair of my panty hose. When they came out, anything that was white with lyrca in it turned a flesh color. Now dad's white socks match his legs. Maybe this was for the best. Everything else was okay. No odd colored shirts. Hooray. Can you believe we have been in Germany for one week. This is all a blur to me and I hope that this writing makes sense. I will post the pictures later in the week.
I love the details!! THanks for being such great writers and letting us know what is going on. It helps to know what yuo are doing since I used to call your house on a daily basis and ask "what are you doing today?" Now when I want to call your house I remember that Julie is going to get the message and she probably wouldn't appreciate 20 new messages from me to you per week. :) Anyway I love you both so much and look forward to skyping with you on sunday. Wish me luck with Justin's birthday party...I hope I know what i'm doing :)
