We are at the Young Adult Center and it is 9:oo pm. We attended the first institute class and the youth committee meeting. It was great. I am hearing lots of German and understanding a little. We will take pictures this weekend and post them. Thank you so much for all your prayers and love that I feel. I love you all so very much. Mom and Dad
Hey guys,
ReplyDeleteI just checked your blog and was excited to see you've posted! I'm glad things are going well. It's going to be fun to hear about your adventures and activities. We talk about you a lot - the kids always want to know "what Grandma and Grandpa are doing now." I'm so glad you're safely there - and even understanding some German - that's amazing you're doing that so soon, Mom!
Love,
Heidi
Friday, December 11, 2009. This morning we moved to our apartment for the next 18 months. It is very comfortable. The couple that we replaced, Brother and Sister Miller left about 2 pm this afternoon. It was hard for them to leave. They could not get everything in their luggage. We are at the YSA Center where it is very quiet. Dad is resting his eyes and I wanted to write what has happened.
ReplyDeleteWe arrived in Frankfurt on Tuesdaz afternoon and after a LONG FLIGHT and going through customs we saw our mission president and his wife waving energentically at us as we came through the doors. They took us to the mission home where we spent about an hour and had lunch. We then went to the mission office and did all the paperwork and then loaded our luggage in the van and Brother and Sister Cannon took us about 40 minutes away to Darmstadt. We went to the apartment of Brother and Sister Miller and then we went to the home where we stayed until the Miller's departed. We stayed at the home of Brother and Sister Friede and their 13 year old daughter. It was a beautiful German home and filled with the love of the gospel. They were so gracious to us and she even spoke a little English for me. It was so wonderful. We are still a little jet-lagged but things are beginnin to slow now. Tonight will probablz be quiet here at the center. We may have severa YSA here just to socialize but no activities are planned. Thursday night the YW and YM sang to us to tell the Miller´s goodbye. Last night was institute and the light meal we prepared. Manz young people came to saz farewell to the Miller´s. Tomorrow night is the ward Christmas party. They have already decorated beautifully and we are really looking forward to this time to get to know more members. We met with the stake president President Pilz and he told us what he expected and what his commitment is to the YSA centers.
Dad feel last night going to the car in the dark. He will have a sore knee and ankle for a few days but mostly he is okay.
We went shopping this afternoon for food. We bought brochen, fulkorn brot, cheese, yogurt, eggs, salad makings, oatmeal, milk and another kind of bread. It took a a long time to get just that because we have to search for everything. We will go again tomorrow to get food for the weekend.
The YSA are terrific. We met with the YSA council last night before institute. They are well organized and a little crazy just like I am used to seeing.
We miss you but are happy working here. We are learning what we need to do and love the ward and missionaries here.
Dad bought a GPS unit yesterday. He loves it because we don´t get lost.
Wow, you guys are jumping right in! Dad, I hope your knee and ankle get feeling better soon. I love you guys.

Dear Grandma and Grandpa,
ReplyDeleteWe are happy to see that GPS works in Germany. W are glad that you are getting settled into your appartment and able to get food. We hope Dad is doing ok. His knee and ankle may slow him down a bit. It will make it so you will have to sit around and talk... it sure is an easy way to start a conversation:)
Megan had her Orchestra Concert today. She played Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, Jolly Old St. Nicholas, and Jingle Bells. She did such a great job.
Nicholas wants to know how fast your Ferrari goes? What is the maximum speed on your spedometer?
Lauren is glad to know you are doing well. We want to send you lots of hugs and kisses. We hope you have a great day as a missionary!! We love you!
Love, The Henley's
