No internet at our apartment

Today we called the mission home again. They are now very familiar with us. It has been a month and we still have no internet and no Skype capability. We miss it very much. The company that carried our contract as well as the other senior couples cancelled the contracts the end of November and neglected to tell the mission home. The mission president has decided that all couples will now get their own internet service. We have been at this game for a month now and today the company told us that we could not have the internet because their is no phone line in the apartment and we do not have a phone number. We do have a phone line and phone number and they are now saying that by Wednesday we should have something. Should I have faith in this system.

Things are going well here. We had a great family home evening on Monday night and I learned a new way to play Uno. I didn't win but I still enjoyed it. We decided that we should have brough the Great Dal Muti with us. This is that kind of group. We had a stake youth council in Heidelberg on Wednesday night and then Institute on Thursday. We have only had a couple of young adults here this evening but tomorrow we are busy so it is not surprising. I made big soft pretzels and a cut fresh fruit for their "snack" after Institiute. They loved it. Tomorrow we are coming to the church for the cleaning until 11:00am and then we are going to take the street display to downtown Darmstadt and will be there for the afternoon. We hope to find 20 young single adults who want to know how much Heavenly Father loves them. We now have 2 sets of elders and one set of sisters in our area. We will have fewer missionaries and the mission boundaries are enlarging. The Hamburg Mission was dissolved and much of it was absorbed by the Berlin Mission but we will get some of the Hamburg Mission and some of the area in southern Germany. There will be a new Swiss Austrian mission that includes Munich and Stuttgart also. All the missions need couples for offices and for young adult centers. The couple in Heidelberg is leaving in 4 weeks and their replacement will not be here before they leave. The mission office couple does not have a replacement and we will miss that. Anyone want to come to Germany--just let us know.

We went to a great conference in Frankfurt on March 12 that included all the young adult center couples with the mission president. We went to the Frankfurt Temple in the morning and then had a lunch there. We then sat in meeting with the mission president for the afternoon and evening. President Ninow talked about the importance of bringing the young adults to Christ and how we can do that. We began discussing what was happening in each of the centers and it seemed like no one wanted to have the meeting end. President Ninow and his wife then took us to a local restaurant for dinner and we talked and laughed. It was a great time with great people.

We had movie night at the young adult center and they watched "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs". We had good food--popcorn and lots of cut veggies and dip and a few sweets. We had a good group here and they included their friends who are not members and an investigator.

Wednesday we helped our American neighbors move to a new place. They have 3 small children and needed more room. The missionaries and several ward members came to help them. They did not have a truck to do this. They took out all the seats in their small van and then we had two cars that could put down the back seats. We were finished by 3:30 pm and then came to the center.

Monday March 22 is our Zone Conference in Heidelberg. I am glad that it is Heidelberg this time because it is a shorter distance to drive. This will be Elder and Sister Glissmeyers last conference. They have been so helpful to us and I will really miss them. They are ready to go back to see their family.

We continue to read and learn, love and laugh, serve and love it. We think of our family at home and have faith that all is well there but we do miss their hugs and kisses. We are thankful for the internet that keeps us in touch. Sun and warmer weather make our days and evenings much better. We are so blessed by the gospel in our lives. We hope we are helping these young single adults to know that their lives will be happier as they serve the Lord.

  1. What a wonderful report! We leave in 33 days or so and are dying with curiosity to see what kind of assignment we will be given. When you were talking about the missions being changed, I was hoping you'd get Stuttgart, so you could go visit our Paul and his family! Can't blame you for wanting internet--we talk to our kids in Germany and California with it. It's the best. Hope it comes through for you. Keep up the good work! Marilyn
