The German speaking stake conference was Saturday and Sunday, Februarz 20 and 21, 2010. The conference was broadcast from Berlin and the speakers were President Uchtdorf, President Teixeria of the Area Presidency, Sister Barbara Thompson from the Relief Society and President Kopishke, the Area President. I thought I would really enjoy Sister Thompson's remarks, however she served her mission in Hamburg and she spoke in German. My translator did a good job of telling me what was said. The spirit was very strong. Sunday morning President Uchtdorf told us that he had re-dedicated Germany to the preaching of the gospel as requested by President Monson. The members in Darmstadt were so happy to see their former stake president and to see him speak. On Sunday night we went for a meeting with our new student council at the home of the stake high councilor. We had a "business" dinner and it was a very productive meeting. Brother and Sister Weitzel were having the Uchtdorf's to dinner on Monday night. Thursday the relief society sister hosted an afternoon "tea" for Sister Uchtdorf and her daughter because they stayed in Germany longer to visit. Her daughter, Anje, was the relief society president in this ward prior to her move to Utah a little over a year ago. We had the opportunity to visit with both Sister Uchtdorf and Sister Evans and they are so gracious and so loved by the people in this ward. Wednesday night the stake president counselor came to the student council and gave their orieintation. Monday night was Family Home Evening and we had tacos and then the lesson and then we went bowling. We had a big group and we had such a great time. We had 3 YSA who I had not seen since we came and it was really great. They also came on Thursday night for Institiute. Tuesday for our p-day we did our regular cleaning and laundry and then we went to downtown Darmstadt and found a new area of shopping. We found some new stores--one very much like magic moon in Logan. It was a good day and we loved the walk. We are busier each day and we seem to get more tired week by week. We now have much longer days and more to do. I guess that is why they call it missionary work. We love the district meetings and feeling the spirit of missionary work here. We are so blessed for this opportunity.
